At Mediaocean, we believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are essential pillars of a thriving and innovative workplace. We are proud to present our inaugural Diversity Report, which showcases our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. This report reflects our efforts in 2023 and highlights the progress we have made in various areas, including workforce demographics, community engagement, corporate social responsibility, talent acquisition, culture, and development.
Workforce demographics
We recognize the importance of representation and are actively working towards increasing the diversity of our workforce. In 2023, our global workforce consisted of 39.7% women, surpassing the tech industry standard of 29% women. Our leadership positions also reflect this number, exceeding the tech industry standard with 39% women. We are dedicated to enhancing the representation of underrepresented minorities (URMs), including individuals who identify as Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous, and those of two or more races.
Community engagement
Our Career Circles, also known as Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), have become an integral part of our organizational fabric. These groups provide a platform for our employees to connect, develop skills, and contribute to a more inclusive workplace. We have Career Circles that span a wide range of intersectional identities including Women, Pride, Professional Parents, Mental Health & Wellness, Black Employees, Mi Gente, AAPI, Language Lovers, and Books & Beyond. In 2023, 91% of members reported overall satisfaction with being a part of a Career Circle, and 95% found the discussion topics helpful in developing their skills. This success aligns with industry best practices, as research suggests that effective ERGs play a crucial role in promoting inclusion at work and contribute to the attraction and retention of diverse talent.
Corporate social responsibility
Mediaocean's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reinforces our purpose of innovating the future and unleashing the potential of marketing worldwide. Our CSR initiatives create opportunities to drive growth, innovation, and success while meeting the sustainability values of our clients, employees, and stakeholders. In 2023, we were awarded the Bronze EcoVadis Sustainability Rating, further validating our dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices.
Talent acquisition
We understand the importance of a diverse talent pool and have implemented a skills-based hiring model to expand our reach and reduce bias. This approach, coupled with our inclusive job description project, has resulted in a 6% year-over-year increase in applications from URMs and women candidates. In 2023, we were also able to invest over $100,000 to our partner organizations to help service and support the communities they represent including URM candidates. By removing barriers and creating a more inclusive recruitment process, we are actively working towards building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
Culture
Cultural awareness is a vital aspect of fostering an inclusive workplace. In 2023, we hosted 15 cultural awareness events, including celebrations for Black History Month, International Women's Day, and Mental Health Awareness Month. These events received an average rating of 4.7/5 from attendees. By creating spaces for dialogue and celebration, we continue to promote understanding, empathy, and appreciation for diverse cultures within our organization.
Benefits
We prioritize the well-being of our employees and have established a comprehensive set of benefits to ensure a diverse and inclusive workplace. Our parental leave policy goes beyond the standard by including non-birthing parents, recognizing the importance of parental involvement regardless of gender identity. Moreover, we prioritize mental health by offering a range of benefits, including free counseling sessions through our Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) and Workplace Options (WPO) partnerships, mental and physical well-being resources, and a Headspace subscription. Our commitment to transgender inclusion is reflected in the provision of transgender health benefits, affirming our support for all aspects of our employees' wellbeing.
Development
Investing in the development of our employees is crucial to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. In 2023, we launched the Diversity Trainer Certification Program, designed to enhance the skills of our Talent Development team and further our commitment to DEI. By equipping our trainers with the necessary tools, we are empowering them to lead impactful DEI initiatives and contribute to the creation of a truly inclusive corporate culture.
Our Mentorship Program also witnessed significant growth in 2023, with a 25% increase in participants compared to the previous year. Notably, there was a substantial 58% increase in the number of women participants, reflecting the program's appeal and its ability to attract diverse talent. The program's impact is evident in the increased satisfaction scores of both mentees and mentors, highlighting the effectiveness of our mentorship guides.
